Artificial lawns are great for difficult to mow or grow grass areas. Ideal for small lawn areas too, especially high traffic shaded lawns like in London. The technical advancement in artificial turf has made it possible to have plastic lawns that ...

Mike, the items for sale, espcially the fertiliser range in our Lawn Shop provide no comparison to amateur bought products. They are heaps better not only in quality and technology but also cost per single square metre. Should you want me to put some details together for you, please email a 'shopping list' to me at sales@lawn.co.uk with your details and I will sort it. Basically the majority of garden centre treatments are in the main around 8p - 10p per sqm for a minimal nutrient content. What your clients need is a 25-5-15 and slow release over a 3 month period. The Scotts Lawn Builder range are the closest thing to a more professional product for amateur use.

Hi Mike. I have started a small, part-time local business offering lawn care and have around 15 regular customers. I'm having some difficulty coming to grips with the lawn treatments on offer. At the moment I shop around the garden centres and buy the 'feed and weed' type products at the best price for my customers. I have recently done this with autumn feed and moss killer. My confusion arises when I look at the lawn treatments for sale on the companion web site to yours. They seem more expensive, which has a knock-on effect for my customers.
So, to some up. What are the pros and cons between garden centre lawn care products and those offered on the adjoining site?
P.S. It is currently pouring with rain so I can't get out and work. :(
Cheers, Mike Hughes

Good afternoon Mike

Thanks for the welcome and the helpful comments
I will let you know how I get on with curing my dry patch problems which are pretty extensive this year. I am following the advice given in your technical leaflet on the subject.

Andrew

Well that is great, thank you. Like any business, a network is only as good as it's members and contribution.

Regards

Thanks Mike, you are right of course. Education is the main issue, trouble is some of my customers have been educating themselves for 70 years plus and its hard to get an old dog to learn new tricks. However I will keep trying.

Welcome to The Lawn Society Network.
We welcome amateur lawn owners and professional turf managers too so if your lawn(s) are large or small, size is not important to us!

I am the Founder of The Lawn Society which was featured in The Times Newspaper in May 2007.

Rather than go mad seeking members via the standard paid subscription method, we thought that we would provide this new platform to all those that want to join us.

The purpose of The Lawn Society network is for lawn owners to share their photos, experiences and knowledge of their patch of greenery and to raise the profile of the humble lawn - often forgotten by many as the largest part of any garden and one plant(s) that causes the most problems in the garden to both amateur and professional lawn owner alike.

In support of the Lawn Society concept, I can boast over 27 years in the professional sportsturf industry in a hands on, technical and commercial capacity and the qualifications to match. I am a Fellow Member of The Institute of Groundsmanship and a guest Advisor/Speaker at national gardening shows including The Chelsea Flower Show.

Most of all, I have a burning passion for lawns and their care and hope that you will benefit greatly from joining me on this social network. Together we can make it grow...

Do You Think That The Formation Of The Lawn Society Is A Good Idea?
Very Good Idea
About Me:
I have been a turf professional for over 27 years, having been employed in a practical, technical and commercial capacity throughout that time. I have a natural passion to assist the lawn owner with their lawns and learnt a long time ago that what the majority of lawn owners require is unbiased advice that is not linked to any product or service.
What Would You Say Would Be The Three Main Problems Experienced With Your Lawns To Date
1. Dog urine burns though Dog Rocks help alleviate the problem now that I have discovered them.
2. Having as much time as I would like to mow them. I do not have any weeds or moss or weed grasses as I work hard to ensure that they do not get a look in so question three is a hard one to answer
